Scleral lenses are a type of specialty contact lens designed to correct vision when glasses, or typical “soft” contact lenses, won’t work. This type of lens is ideal for patients with corneal disorders or other complications. Corneal disorders include keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, corneal scars from injuries or infections, large prescriptions, severe dryness, and distorted vision from corneal transplants.

Scleral lenses are a large diameter contact lens that rests on the sclera (white part) of your eye.  They are designed to vault over the entire corneal surface and rest on the scleral, scleral lenses can morph an irregular cornea into a smooth optical surface to correct vision problems.

At Scarbrough Family Eyecare, we are proud to fit these types of specialty lenses to help give clear and comfortable vision to more patients! Schedule an appointment and ask the optometrist if scleral contact lenses are right for you.
